Reminders can come in many forms in GrandCare. These are the main ones:
- To-Dos. These are generally for simple ADL reminders like brushing teeth and eating meals.
- Calendar Reminders. For things like doctor appointments or work schedule.
- Video-enhanced instructional reminders: for things like recipes and how to use an appliance.
- Medication reminders. These can be tied to support team notifications so they can know if someone is not acknowledging their medication.
NEW!! Video Creation Tips
Some GrandCare customers are happy to use found video materials on YouTube for things like Activity Reminders and entertainment purposes. But most will probably want to create videos of their own. With that in mind, here are some instructions and tips for creating video for use on GrandCare touchscreens. Note: you can use any camera you like, any file transfer methods you prefer, and any editor you choose. What follows is just the workflow that we currently use.
We mostly shoot handheld with iPhones. Sometimes we use a tripod.- Make sure to have good light on the subject. Avoid bright windows behind them.
- The audio captured directly on the phone will likely be poor quality and thus not be used at all.
- Get a couple of different angles. Shoot more than you need.
- Shoot some B-roll (alternative shots that can be intercut with the main footage).
- Transfer files to laptop/desktop computer. (In our case, we use AirDrop from iPhone to macOS).
- For editing we use Blackmagic Design’s DaVinci Resolve because it is powerful and free. https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolveThis is an external link. (If you need instruction on how to use it, try this videoThis is an external link..)
- In Resolve we do basic cutting and arranging of clips, video transitions, and titles.
- Also in Resolve we do VoiceOver recording (if needed) and music if desired. Do not use copyrighted music if using YouTube. We use Envato for assets like that. https://elements.envato.com/This is an external link.
- We export the finished project directly to YouTube.
- In YouTube make sure it is Unpublished (covered in a separate video).
- Now you can use the video to create instructional video reminder in GC Manage as covered in the previous lesson. Important: don’t use the Share button in YouTube. Copy and paste from your browser’s location bar at the top.
