3 Things we Learned at EHX

1) Size doesn’t necessarily matter

Ok, so you have probably heard by now that this year at EHX Spring in Orlando was much smaller in size than previous years. You also may have noticed that many of the larger players in the industry were a no-show. So as you might expect, there were those who felt disappointed. In contrast, our opinion is that despite its overall size, the show was packed with quality attendees and motivated exhibitors, most of which were eager to continue advancing an industry comeback from the darker days of the recession. So all in all, we say it was a smaller yet ‘different’ show… and we mean different in a good way.

2) New opportunities will boost the industry
If you’re not paying attention to Digital Healthcare, Digital Signage, and/or new retrofit opportunities, maybe it’s time you should. A clear winner of attention at the show was the New Opportunities section which featured a host of new technologies and ideas to expand the dealers list of services. We get a very strong impression that the days of ‘Entertainment’ being the number one driving force behind the industry are numbered. We live in a time where practicality is playing a much larger role and this is where services such as Digital Healthcare and Security begin to expand their share of the market.

3) Dealer-to-Dealer panel discussions were a big hit

Now, if you attended the show and didn’t sit down at one of the many Dealer-to-Dealer panel discussions… then yes, you likely did walk away thinking EHX wasn’t worth your time. On the other hand if you did take advantage of the included discussions and presentations, then you may have taken more from this show than any other in the past. The show featured everything from Targeting the Retrofit market to Getting Started in Digital Healthcare to EPA Lead Paint Training and many many others. Not surprisingly, these discussions were very popular and very well attended.

09.24.2009 — FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Electronic House Expo (EHX) announced today that GrandCare Systems will sponsor the Home Health Technology educational track and pavilion at EHX Spring 2010: The New Opportunities Show, being held March 24-27, 2010 in Orlando, Florida.

GrandCare, a leading provider of high-end, in-home health technologies and vocal advocate and educator to dealers and policy makers, will assist with the development of the conference sessions and anchor the Home Technology Pavilion on the Expo Floor.

EHX Spring 2010, produced by CE Pro magazine, is delivering on its goal of a one-of-a-kind event experience which will lead custom electronic professionals toward the new growth opportunities being created in the changing economy.

Themed “The New Opportunities Show,” EHX Spring 2010 will feature Home Health Technologies as one of six major areas identified by the editors of CE Pro to represent real revenue growth prospects. In addition to the Home Health Technology Pavilion, EHX Spring 2010 will dedicate technical, business, and free product training relevant to the multi-billion dollar market.

“An aging population is driving demand for technology that will allow seniors to remain in the homes and self-sufficient. This creates new opportunities for our audience, and partnering with GrandCare Systems to anchor our efforts makes perfect sense,” said Jim Wagner, General Manager of EH Events. “We are excited by their participation not only on the Expo Floor, but also in the development of comprehensive educational training that will equip our attendees with the knowledge to best serve this growing market.”

Some have referred to this new aging phenomenon as the inevitable “silver tsunami” as the senior population is expected to double over the next two decades. According to a 2005 AARP study, 89 percent of homeowners over 45 years old wanted to stay at home.

“We are passionate about the use of technology to simplify and enhance the caregiver experience. Technology helps us remotely assess activities of daily living, wellness, vitals, medication access, sleep patterns, and general cognition. It is an accepted fact that social connectivity and brain fitness are critical for healthy aging,” said Gaytha Traynor, co-founder of GrandCare Systems. “That’s why we have combined monitoring, communication and cognition technologies into one product that is personally delivered to clients by professional dealers and installers.”

EHX Spring 2010 will also focus on:

* Alternative/Smart Energy
* Commercial
* Retrofit
* Recurring Revenue
* Digital Content

Attendees will benefit from the most relevant, timely and actionable business and technology development sessions delivered in new informal, interactive and personal formats. EHX Spring will expand the view on the potential of new revenue sources through a variety of dealer and industry-lead panels and super sessions, as well as a packed Expo Floor focusing on the hottest new technologies.

Registration for EHX Spring 2010 will be open in the fall of 2009. Event details are available online at http://www.ehxweb.com.

Every year GrandCare exhibits at EHX *Electronic House Expo.  It’s always been a great show for us and has given us many dealer leads, new dealer sign-ups.  EHX is hosted in Orlando every March and caters to a wide variety of integrators, dealers, installers, etc.  These dealers are often interested in getting involved with this new market (home health technology), especially when there are residuals/recurring revenues involved for them. http://www.ehxweb.com/spring2010 This year’s conference will be March 24-27 2010.  Over 8,000 industry professionals and hundreds of exhibiting companies participate in this show every year.
The theme of the 2010 conference is “New Opportunities”.  Many dealers are coming to learn about the home healthcare market and how they can get onboard.  I am creating a home health technology pavilion along with a few conference sessions for dealers about this industry, demographics, technologies available, etc.  I will do significant marketing to gain exposure before the event, and to ensure good dealer attendance.  In the past, dealers have come to EHX ONLY to learn more about these opportunities.   And with the changing times, we expect these numbers to increase significantly. Included in the booth will be a presentation stage with mic and a/v equipment so each vendor will have some presentation time to demo/present the product to a larger audience.  You will be able to do this multiple times throughout the show.  Booth space, carpeting, electricity, signage, etc. will all be included as well.
I am going to keep the all-inclusive exhibiting cost very reasonable and with our technology companies united, we will have a strong presence and large pavilion space.
I am in the beginning stages of getting participants together, submitting press releases, arranging for radio interviews and setting up session speakers.  We are seeking dealers to attend the conference sessions, learn more about the market and opportunities with home health technology.  We are seeking exhibitors and potential speakers for our panels and conference sessions.
