Caregiver Systems offers an interactive wireless communication and wellness reporting system for safe and secure independent living

San Diego (PRWEB) September 29, 2009 — Home Controls, Inc., an award-winning company that has offered innovative products and services for the home automation industry since 1989, today announced that it has launched Caregiver Systems (www.caregiversystems.com), a new division committed to providing high quality, fully automated communication and wellness reporting solutions for seniors and those living with disabilities. Caregiver Systems was founded to provide a unique and innovative system that allows seniors to “age in place” while providing peace of mind for their families. Caregiver Systems by Home Controls combines knowledge and expertise in home automation solutions with an affordable, fully installed, interactive and easy-to-use system that provides 24/7 wellness reporting, activities of daily living and communications.

According to a June 2009 report from the AARP Policy Institute, the population 65 or older is projected to grow by 89 percent between 2007 and 2030, more than four times faster than the population overall. This aging population will skyrocket by another 118 percent between the years 2030 and 2050 as Baby Boomers reach 85. There are approximately 44.4 million caregivers in the U.S., who are struggling to care for their aging loved ones because of the astronomical costs of assisted living and full-time nursing care.

“With the huge growth of the senior population, we saw a definite need and market opportunity for an easy-to-use, automated solution that allows people to stay in their own homes with increased peace of mind. Most people don’t realize that affordable home technology that works hand-in-hand with human interaction to delay or avoid the need for assisted living is available,” said Home Controls President Ken Kerr. “We believe our new division offers one of the most innovative and comprehensive solutions available, combining wellness reporting, communication and cognitive tools into a single system. Care facilities also benefit by reducing administrative work and increasing value to residents and their families.”

Leveraging its 20-year history in home automation and the unique technology developed by GrandCare Systems (www.grandcare.com), Caregiver Systems by Home Controls is able to offer its customers the most advanced, feature-packed aging in place technology available today. It combines aspects of home automation, online communications, wellness reporting, activities of daily living alerts and cognitive tools into one easy-to-use, affordable package that pays for itself in the first 30 to 90 days of use. Caregiver Systems’ partners provide installation services and a thorough, personalized orientation on how to use the simple touch screen system.

Caregiver Systems – Complete, Simple, Effective

Caregiver Systems does not require separate systems for seniors and caregivers. The system consists of one touch screen monitor and wireless “wellness sensors” placed throughout the senior’s home. The wellness sensors monitor and collect data on important health indicators, including blood pressure, glucose levels, weight, activity and motion, sending wellness reports directly to a secure Web page accessed by the caregiver or family member.

Caregiver Systems is also a complete communication system. Relatives, friends and caregivers simply go online to send messages, reminders and pictures right to the touch screen. The senior needs no computer experience to receive full benefit from Caregiver Systems.

The Caregiver Systems solution includes:
–    A central unit consisting of a sturdy touch screen monitor that connects to any full-time Internet connection
–    “Wellness sensors” which are discreetly placed around the residence to report activity and wellness to the system
–    One touch access to cognitive games, family pictures, appointment reminders and messages
–    Complete system installation and family orientation
–    Full monthly support of non-emergency functions, health and activity monitoring/reporting
–    Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) for 24/7 EMT monitoring and response (optional)

“The beauty of Caregiver Systems is its simplicity. It provides all of the features you’d expect for a top of the line aging in place solution, yet it’s affordable; paying for itself in about three months,” said Cheryl Kerr, division manager of Caregiver Systems. “We deliberately made the price competitive in order to reach millions of seniors and disabled individuals that want to stay independent in their own homes, and to also help millions of caregivers who are making the ultimate sacrifice for their loved ones.”

Caregiver Systems is available for installation, anywhere in the U.S., now. To receive more information on the affordable aging in place alternative from Caregiver Systems, please call 1-858-693-5545 or go to: www.caregiversystems.com.

09.24.2009 — FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Electronic House Expo (EHX) announced today that GrandCare Systems will sponsor the Home Health Technology educational track and pavilion at EHX Spring 2010: The New Opportunities Show, being held March 24-27, 2010 in Orlando, Florida.

GrandCare, a leading provider of high-end, in-home health technologies and vocal advocate and educator to dealers and policy makers, will assist with the development of the conference sessions and anchor the Home Technology Pavilion on the Expo Floor.

EHX Spring 2010, produced by CE Pro magazine, is delivering on its goal of a one-of-a-kind event experience which will lead custom electronic professionals toward the new growth opportunities being created in the changing economy.

Themed “The New Opportunities Show,” EHX Spring 2010 will feature Home Health Technologies as one of six major areas identified by the editors of CE Pro to represent real revenue growth prospects. In addition to the Home Health Technology Pavilion, EHX Spring 2010 will dedicate technical, business, and free product training relevant to the multi-billion dollar market.

“An aging population is driving demand for technology that will allow seniors to remain in the homes and self-sufficient. This creates new opportunities for our audience, and partnering with GrandCare Systems to anchor our efforts makes perfect sense,” said Jim Wagner, General Manager of EH Events. “We are excited by their participation not only on the Expo Floor, but also in the development of comprehensive educational training that will equip our attendees with the knowledge to best serve this growing market.”

Some have referred to this new aging phenomenon as the inevitable “silver tsunami” as the senior population is expected to double over the next two decades. According to a 2005 AARP study, 89 percent of homeowners over 45 years old wanted to stay at home.

“We are passionate about the use of technology to simplify and enhance the caregiver experience. Technology helps us remotely assess activities of daily living, wellness, vitals, medication access, sleep patterns, and general cognition. It is an accepted fact that social connectivity and brain fitness are critical for healthy aging,” said Gaytha Traynor, co-founder of GrandCare Systems. “That’s why we have combined monitoring, communication and cognition technologies into one product that is personally delivered to clients by professional dealers and installers.”

EHX Spring 2010 will also focus on:

* Alternative/Smart Energy
* Commercial
* Retrofit
* Recurring Revenue
* Digital Content

Attendees will benefit from the most relevant, timely and actionable business and technology development sessions delivered in new informal, interactive and personal formats. EHX Spring will expand the view on the potential of new revenue sources through a variety of dealer and industry-lead panels and super sessions, as well as a packed Expo Floor focusing on the hottest new technologies.

Registration for EHX Spring 2010 will be open in the fall of 2009. Event details are available online at http://www.ehxweb.com.

UCLA hosts conference on successful aging in a high-tech world Oct. 30

Posted by Bin Du | September 9th, 2009 at 7:53 am |

While aging affects everyday living in many ways, the latest technological advances in the medical, consumer and lifestyle fields have the potential to help older adults live better for longer.

The UCLA Center on Aging’s second annual “UCLA Technology and Aging Conference: Living Better Longer Through Technology” will feature national academic and industry leaders who will explore cutting-edge innovations affecting every aspect of senior life, from driving and home design to health monitoring and medical advances. The one-day symposium takes place Friday, Oct. 30, at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.

Designed for seniors, their families and caretakers, the conference will provide information to help enhance quality of life, with a focus on everyday things seniors can do to live and thrive independently longer. Many conference speakers have been featured in the national media for their research and work in the field.

“Building on last year’s successful event, we hope to continue sharing the latest cutting-edge advances and exploring how these innovations can help us age more successfully,” said Dr. Gary Small, UCLA’s Parlow-Solomon Professor on Aging and director of the UCLA Center on Aging.

Small’s morning keynote address will explore how frequent use of technologies such as cell phones, video games, BlackBerrys, iPods and computers impact the brain. He will present the latest research demonstrating how surfing the Internet may stimulate and possibly improve brain function in middle-aged and older adults, as well as strategies and tools to help individuals adapt and excel in this modern age.

David H. Murdock, chairman and owner of Dole Food Co. and Castle & Cooke, will deliver a luncheon keynote address discussing successful aging through good nutrition and active living.

A special lifetime achievement award from the UCLA Center on Aging will be presented to Dr. S. Jerome Tamkin and Judith D. Tamkin, whose outstanding contributions to society and active living exemplify the center’s motto, “living better longer.” The award introduction will be made by Dr. Gerald S. Levey, UCLA vice chancellor for medical sciences and dean of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and the presentation will be made by legendary radio and TV personality Art Linkletter.

An afternoon keynote address by Dr. Kathryn A. Atchison, vice provost of intellectual property and industry relations at UCLA, will address the future development and direction of technology for senior living.

Conference breakout sessions will take place throughout the day, designed around two key themes: “Aging in Place” will focus on technologies that will enable older adults to live longer and better in the comfort and safety of their own homes, and “Aging Healthier Longer” will address cutting-edge developments in disease management and treatment, adaptive and assistive devices and techniques, emotional health, and function and sensory enhancements.

Panels will include:

Every year GrandCare exhibits at EHX *Electronic House Expo.  It’s always been a great show for us and has given us many dealer leads, new dealer sign-ups.  EHX is hosted in Orlando every March and caters to a wide variety of integrators, dealers, installers, etc.  These dealers are often interested in getting involved with this new market (home health technology), especially when there are residuals/recurring revenues involved for them. http://www.ehxweb.com/spring2010 This year’s conference will be March 24-27 2010.  Over 8,000 industry professionals and hundreds of exhibiting companies participate in this show every year.
The theme of the 2010 conference is “New Opportunities”.  Many dealers are coming to learn about the home healthcare market and how they can get onboard.  I am creating a home health technology pavilion along with a few conference sessions for dealers about this industry, demographics, technologies available, etc.  I will do significant marketing to gain exposure before the event, and to ensure good dealer attendance.  In the past, dealers have come to EHX ONLY to learn more about these opportunities.   And with the changing times, we expect these numbers to increase significantly. Included in the booth will be a presentation stage with mic and a/v equipment so each vendor will have some presentation time to demo/present the product to a larger audience.  You will be able to do this multiple times throughout the show.  Booth space, carpeting, electricity, signage, etc. will all be included as well.
I am going to keep the all-inclusive exhibiting cost very reasonable and with our technology companies united, we will have a strong presence and large pavilion space.
I am in the beginning stages of getting participants together, submitting press releases, arranging for radio interviews and setting up session speakers.  We are seeking dealers to attend the conference sessions, learn more about the market and opportunities with home health technology.  We are seeking exhibitors and potential speakers for our panels and conference sessions.
Please contact me for more details.  262-338-6147
